if walls could talk

by Marianna Mankle

from corner to corner to corner to
curve, I find myself thinking, At
least my thoughts are safe in
here
, where no one can outvote
me, out goad me, steal my rights,
or ignore me. at least in these
four walls I’m able to breathe
deeply, sleep soundly, pretend
my world did not collapse in.
