Boulders Before Me

by Peggy Kjelgaard

Boulders before me
Seaweed draped over them like ancient mammoth hair
Longevity of life makes them immortal and surreal

An upwelling of cold deep water
Meets their sun baked vastness
Filling cracks and deep crevices

The boulders steam and the earth trembles
As the ancient rocks slowly reappear
Taking control of their endlessness

Seagulls lift in flight
With fear of the unknown
As the sea waters continue to seek control

I question what to do
Do I too run away in fear of the unknown
Or trust the boulders to persist

I sit calmly and admire
Their difference, their boldness, their foreverness
They slowly and peacefully sink back into the abyss

Believe in peace
